Anaheim is a city outside Los Angeles, in Southern California. It's home to the Disneyland Resort, a massive complex of family-friendly, Disney-themed rides, restaurants, hotels and shops. The city's also home to pro sports teams. The Honda Center is the indoor arena where the Anaheim Ducks hockey team plays, and Angel Stadium is the home field of the Los Angeles Angels baseball team.
Anaheim was founded by fifty&nbsp;German families&nbsp;in 1857 and&nbsp;incorporated&nbsp;as the second city in&nbsp;Los Angeles County&nbsp;on March 18, 1876;&nbsp;Orange County was split off from Los Angeles County in 1889. Anaheim remained largely an agricultural community until&nbsp;Disneyland&nbsp;opened in 1955. This led to the construction of several hotels and motels around the area, and residential districts in Anaheim soon followed. The city also developed into an industrial center, producing electronics, aircraft parts and canned fruit. Anaheim is a&nbsp;charter city.
Anaheim's city limits extend almost the full width of Orange County, from&nbsp;Cypress&nbsp;in the west, twenty miles east to the&nbsp;Riverside County&nbsp;line, encompassing a diverse range of neighborhoods. In the west, mid-20th-century&nbsp;tract houses&nbsp;predominate.&nbsp;Downtown Anaheim&nbsp;has three mixed-use historic districts, the largest of which is the Anaheim Colony. South of downtown, a center of commercial activity of regional importance begins, the&nbsp;Anaheim&ndash;Santa Ana edge city, which stretches east and south into the cities of Orange, Santa Ana and Garden Grove. This&nbsp;edge city&nbsp;includes the&nbsp;Disneyland Resort, with two theme parks, multiple hotels, and&nbsp;its retail district; Disney is part of the larger&nbsp;Anaheim Resort&nbsp;district with numerous other hotels and retail complexes. The&nbsp;Platinum Triangle, a neo-urban&nbsp;redevelopment&nbsp;district surrounding&nbsp;Angel Stadium, which is planned to be populated with mixed-use streets and high-rises. Further east, Anaheim Canyon is an industrial district north of the&nbsp;Riverside Freeway&nbsp;and east of the&nbsp;Orange Freeway. The city's eastern third consists of&nbsp;Anaheim Hills, a community built to a master plan, and open land east of the&nbsp;Route 241&nbsp;tollway.

Los Angeles, officially the City of Los Angeles and often known by its initials L.A., is the largest city in the U.S. state of California. With an estimated population of nearly four million people, it is the country's second most populous city (after New York City) and the third most populous city in North America (after Mexico City and New York City). Los Angeles is known for its Mediterranean climate, ethnic diversity, Hollywood entertainment industry, and its sprawling metropolis.
Los Angeles lies in a basin in Southern California, adjacent to the Pacific Ocean, with mountains as high as 10,000 feet (3,000 m), and deserts. The city, which covers about 469 square miles (1,210 km2), is the seat of Los Angeles County, the most populous county in the United States. The Los Angeles metropolitan area (MSA) is home to 13.1 million people, making it the second-largest metropolitan area in the nation after New York. Greater Los Angeles includes metro Los Angeles as well as the Inland Empire and Ventura County. It is the second most populous U.S. combined statistical area, also after New York, with a 2015 estimate of 18.7 million people.
Home to the Chumash and Tongva, Los Angeles was claimed by Juan Rodr&iacute;guez Cabrillo for Spain in 1542. The city was founded on September 4, 1781, by Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. It became a part of Mexico in 1821 following the Mexican War of Independence. In 1848, at the end of the Mexican&ndash;American War, Los Angeles and the rest of California were purchased as part of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, and thus became part of the United States. Los Angeles was incorporated as a municipality on April 4, 1850, five months before California achieved statehood. The discovery of oil in the 1890s brought rapid growth to the city. The city was further expanded with the completion of the Los Angeles Aqueduct in 1913, which delivers water from Eastern California.
Los Angeles has a diverse economy and hosts businesses in a broad range of professional and cultural fields. It also has the busiest container port in the entire Americas. A global city, it has been ranked 6th in the Global Cities Index and 9th in the Global Economic Power Index. The Los Angeles metropolitan area also has a gross metropolitan product of $1.0 trillion (as of 2017), making it the third-largest city by GDP in the world, after the Tokyo and New York City metropolitan areas. Los Angeles hosted the 1932 and 1984 Summer Olympics and will host the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Fullerton was founded in 1887. It secured the land on behalf of the&nbsp;Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Historically it was a center of&nbsp;agriculture, notably groves of Valencia&nbsp;oranges&nbsp;and other&nbsp;citrus&nbsp;crops;&nbsp;petroleum&nbsp;extraction; transportation; and manufacturing. It is home to numerous higher educational institutions, particularly&nbsp;California State University, Fullerton&nbsp;and&nbsp;Fullerton College. From the mid-1940s through the late 1990s, Fullerton was home to a large industrial base made up of&nbsp;aerospace&nbsp;contractors, canneries, paper products manufacturers, and is considered to be the birthplace of the&nbsp;electric guitar, due in a large part to&nbsp;Leo Fender. The headquarters of&nbsp;Vons, which is owned by&nbsp;Albertsons, is located in Fullerton near the Fullerton-Anaheim&nbsp;line.
The first years of the 21st century have seen several political issues played out against a backdrop of class division (between the more affluent northern and western parts of the city and the southern portion of the city, which borders Anaheim), rapidly diminishing supplies of undeveloped land, and demographic changes (including the influx of Asian and Latino immigrants into an area previously dominated by Caucasian Americans).
As in many cities, growth and development are contentious issues. In the 1990s, the downtown commercial district had become economically depressed, and was known mainly for being an area of sleepy antique stores and small shops. A symbol of downtown's problems was the&nbsp;Fox Theatre, a local landmark, which had fallen into disrepair. As of November 2004, a fundraising drive had accumulated sufficient funds to buy the theater, but not yet enough money to restore it. By 2006, restoration was started.
During this same period, the downtown area (a.k.a. DTF), especially south of Commonwealth Avenue (a.k.a. SOCO),[11]&nbsp;has become more of a busy entertainment district, described by the&nbsp;OC Weekly&nbsp;as "Bourbon Street&nbsp;West." In less than five years, some 30 businesses that sell alcohol have opened, making the downtown area much more active at night. Ranging from a mixture of Mexican cantinas and Asian bars to Jazz, local venues and music stores, with the festive atmosphere have come problems such as public drunkenness, fights and a shortage of parking. In 2008, City Manager Chris Meyer called together department head and the finance department and reported to the city council that the Restaurant Overlay District (established December 2002)was costing the city $935,000 over and above the sales taxes collected. Then four officers were hired for downtown, bringing the costs to $1,600,000 a year. The ROD had abolished condition use; a new ordinance to establish restrictions was drafted and adopted by the city council in 2008. a police task force last year[clarification needed][when?]&nbsp;has addressed some of these problems.
The 293-acre (1.19&nbsp;km2)&nbsp;Hughes Aircraft Company's Ground Systems Group campus in western Fullerton was redeveloped into a major new residential and commercial district, called&nbsp;Amerige Heights,&nbsp;in 2001&ndash;2004. This development was accompanied by extreme shifts in neighborhood property values, first dropping precipitously in the late 1980s to early 1990s as the former Hughes employees sold their houses, and then rising rapidly as part of a general increase in real estate values throughout Orange County.
