Claremont is a city on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County, California, United States, 30.3 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. It is in the Pomona Valley, at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, and has a population, as of the 2015 United States Census estimate, of 36,283 people

Claremont

Fullerton was founded in 1887. It secured the land on behalf of the&nbsp;Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. Historically it was a center of&nbsp;agriculture, notably groves of Valencia&nbsp;oranges&nbsp;and other&nbsp;citrus&nbsp;crops;&nbsp;petroleum&nbsp;extraction; transportation; and manufacturing. It is home to numerous higher educational institutions, particularly&nbsp;California State University, Fullerton&nbsp;and&nbsp;Fullerton College. From the mid-1940s through the late 1990s, Fullerton was home to a large industrial base made up of&nbsp;aerospace&nbsp;contractors, canneries, paper products manufacturers, and is considered to be the birthplace of the&nbsp;electric guitar, due in a large part to&nbsp;Leo Fender. The headquarters of&nbsp;Vons, which is owned by&nbsp;Albertsons, is located in Fullerton near the Fullerton-Anaheim&nbsp;line.
The first years of the 21st century have seen several political issues played out against a backdrop of class division (between the more affluent northern and western parts of the city and the southern portion of the city, which borders Anaheim), rapidly diminishing supplies of undeveloped land, and demographic changes (including the influx of Asian and Latino immigrants into an area previously dominated by Caucasian Americans).
As in many cities, growth and development are contentious issues. In the 1990s, the downtown commercial district had become economically depressed, and was known mainly for being an area of sleepy antique stores and small shops. A symbol of downtown's problems was the&nbsp;Fox Theatre, a local landmark, which had fallen into disrepair. As of November 2004, a fundraising drive had accumulated sufficient funds to buy the theater, but not yet enough money to restore it. By 2006, restoration was started.
During this same period, the downtown area (a.k.a. DTF), especially south of Commonwealth Avenue (a.k.a. SOCO),[11]&nbsp;has become more of a busy entertainment district, described by the&nbsp;OC Weekly&nbsp;as "Bourbon Street&nbsp;West." In less than five years, some 30 businesses that sell alcohol have opened, making the downtown area much more active at night. Ranging from a mixture of Mexican cantinas and Asian bars to Jazz, local venues and music stores, with the festive atmosphere have come problems such as public drunkenness, fights and a shortage of parking. In 2008, City Manager Chris Meyer called together department head and the finance department and reported to the city council that the Restaurant Overlay District (established December 2002)was costing the city $935,000 over and above the sales taxes collected. Then four officers were hired for downtown, bringing the costs to $1,600,000 a year. The ROD had abolished condition use; a new ordinance to establish restrictions was drafted and adopted by the city council in 2008. a police task force last year[clarification needed][when?]&nbsp;has addressed some of these problems.
The 293-acre (1.19&nbsp;km2)&nbsp;Hughes Aircraft Company's Ground Systems Group campus in western Fullerton was redeveloped into a major new residential and commercial district, called&nbsp;Amerige Heights,&nbsp;in 2001&ndash;2004. This development was accompanied by extreme shifts in neighborhood property values, first dropping precipitously in the late 1980s to early 1990s as the former Hughes employees sold their houses, and then rising rapidly as part of a general increase in real estate values throughout Orange County.

Fullerton

Brea (/?bre??/; meaning "oil" or "tar" in Spanish) is a city in northern Orange County, California. The population as of the 2010 census was 39,282. It is located 33 miles (53 km) southeast of Los Angeles.
The city began as a center of crude oil production, was later propelled by citrus production, and is now an important retail center because of the large Brea Mall and the recently redeveloped Brea Downtown. Brea is also known for its extensive public art program which began in 1975 and continues today with over 140 artworks in the collection placed and located throughout the city. Brea's public art program has been used as a model and inspiration for many public art programs across the United States.
The village of Olinda was founded in present-day Carbon Canyon at the beginning of the 19th century and many entrepreneurs came to the area searching for "black gold" (petroleum). In 1894, the owner of the land, Abel Stearns, sold 1,200 acres (4.9 km2) to the west of Olinda to the newly created Union Oil Company of California, and by 1898 many nearby hills began sporting wooden oil-drilling towers on the newly discovered Brea-Olinda Oil Field. In 1908 the village of Randolph, named for railway engineer Epes Randolph, was founded just south of Brea Canyon for the oil workers and their families. Baseball legend Walter Johnson grew up in Olinda at the start of the 20th century where he worked in the surrounding oil fields as a youth.
The villages of Olinda and Randolph grew and merged as the economy boomed, and on January 19, 1911, the town's map was filed under the new name of&nbsp;Brea, from the Spanish language word for&nbsp;natural asphalt (also called bitumen, pitch or tar). With a population of 752, Brea was&nbsp;incorporated&nbsp;on February 23, 1917, as the eighth official city of&nbsp;Orange County.
As oil production declined, some agricultural development took place, especially lemon and orange groves. In the 1920s, the Brea Chamber of Commerce promoted the city with the slogan &ldquo;Oil, Oranges, and Opportunity.&rdquo; In 1950 Brea had a population of 3,208. The citrus groves gave way gradually to industrial parks and residential development. In 1956, Carl N. Karcher opened the first two Carl's Jr. restaurants in Anaheim, California and Brea, California. The opening of the Orange Freeway (57) and the Brea Mall in the 1970s spurred further residential growth, including large planned developments east of the 57 Freeway in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. In the late 1990s, a 50-acre (200,000 m2) swath of downtown Brea centered on Brea Boulevard and Birch Street was heavily redeveloped into a shopping and entertainment area with movie theaters, sidewalk cafes, a live comedy club from The Improv chain, numerous shops and restaurants, and a weekly farmer's market. It is locally known and signed as Downtown Brea.

Brea

The&nbsp;Gabriele&ntilde;o&nbsp;indigenous group inhabited Irvine about 2,000 years ago.&nbsp;Gaspar de Portol&agrave;, a Spanish explorer, came to the area in 1769, which led to the establishment of forts,&nbsp;missions&nbsp;and cattle herds. The&nbsp;King of Spain&nbsp;parceled out land for missions and private use.
After Mexico's independence from Spain in 1821, the Mexican government secularized the missions and assumed control of the lands. It began distributing the land to Mexican citizens who applied for grants. Three large&nbsp;Spanish/Mexican grants&nbsp;made up the land that later became the Irvine Ranch:&nbsp;Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana,&nbsp;Rancho San Joaquin&nbsp;and&nbsp;Rancho Lomas de Santiago.
&nbsp; Camp Bonita at Irvine Ranch in 1937 In 1864,&nbsp;Jose Andres Sepulveda, owner of Rancho San Joaquin sold 50,000 acres (200&nbsp;km2) to Benjamin and Thomas Flint,&nbsp;Llewellyn Bixby&nbsp;and&nbsp;James Irvine&nbsp;for $18,000 to resolve debts due to the Great Drought. In 1866, Irvine, Flint and Bixby acquired 47,000-acre (190&nbsp;km2) Rancho Lomas de Santiago for $7,000. After the&nbsp;Mexican-American war&nbsp;the land of Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana fell prey to tangled titles. In 1868, the ranch was divided among four claimants as part of a lawsuit: Flint, Bixby and Irvine. The ranches were devoted to sheep grazing. However, in 1870,&nbsp;tenant farming&nbsp;was permitted.
In 1878,&nbsp;James Irvine&nbsp;acquired his partners' interests for $150,000. His 110,000 acres (450&nbsp;km2) stretched 23 miles (37&nbsp;km) from the Pacific Ocean to the&nbsp;Santa Ana River. James Irvine died in 1886. The ranch was inherited by his son,&nbsp;James Irvine II, who incorporated it into&nbsp;The Irvine Company. James Irvine II shifted the ranch operations to field crops, olive and citrus crops.
In 1888, the Santa Fe Railroad extended its line to Fallbrook Junction, north of San Diego, and named a station along the way after James Irvine. The town that formed around this station was named Myford, after Irvine's son, because a post office in Calaveras County already bore the family name. The town was renamed Irvine in 1914.

Two&nbsp;Marine Corps&nbsp;facilities,&nbsp;MCAS El Toro&nbsp;and&nbsp;MCAS Tustin, were built during World War II on ranch land sold to the government.
James Irvine II, died in 1947 at the age of 80. His son, Myford, assumed the presidency of The Irvine Company. He began opening small sections of the Irvine Ranch to urban development.
The Irvine Ranch played host to the&nbsp;Boy Scouts of America's&nbsp;1953 National Scout Jamboree.&nbsp;Jamboree Road, a major street which now stretches from Newport Beach to the city of Orange, was named in honor of this event.&nbsp;David Sills, then a young Boy Scout from&nbsp;Peoria, Illinois, was among the attendees at the 1953 Jamboree. Sills came back to Irvine as an adult and went on to serve four terms as the city's mayor.
Myford Irvine died in 1959. The same year, the University of California asked The Irvine Company for 1,000 acres (4 km2) for a new university campus. The Irvine Company sold the requested land for $1 and later the state purchased an additional 500 acres (2.0 km2).
William Pereira, the university's consulting architect, and The Irvine Company planners drew up master plans for a city of 50,000 people surrounding the new university. The plan called for industrial, residential and recreational areas, commercial centers and greenbelts. The new community was to be named Irvine; the old agricultural town of Irvine, where the railroad station and post office were located, was renamed East Irvine. The first phases of the villages of Turtle Rock, University Park, Westpark (then called Culverdale), El Camino Real, and Walnut were completed by 1970.
On December 28, 1971, the residents of these communities voted to incorporate a substantially larger city than the one envisioned by the Pereira plan. By January 1999, Irvine had a population of 134,000 and a total area of 43 square miles (111 km2).
In the 1970s, the mayor was&nbsp;Bill Vardoulis.
After the&nbsp;Fall of Saigon&nbsp;in 1975, a large influx of&nbsp;Vietnamese&nbsp;refugees&nbsp;settled in nearby&nbsp;Fountain Valley, especially in the late 1970s and throughout the 80s, forming a large percentage of&nbsp;Asian Americans&nbsp;in the city.
In late 2003, after a ten-year-long legal battle, Irvine annexed the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station. This added 7.3 square miles (19 km2) of land to the city and blocked an initiative championed by Newport Beach residents to replace John Wayne Airport with a new airport at El Toro. Most of this land has become part of the Orange County Great Park.

Naples&nbsp;is a neighborhood of&nbsp;Long Beach, California, United States, built on three islands located in&nbsp;Alamitos Bay. The islands are divided by canals which open into the bay. Most of the streets on the island have Italianate names. The center of Naples features a large fountain which serves as a popular meeting spot.
In 1903 Arthur Parson built the islands of Naples in the marshy Bixby Slough of the artificial Alamitos Bay, in the mouth of the San Gabriel River. The design was by the firm Mayberry &amp; Parker. The concept of canals and gondolas was similar to the "Venice of America" developed by Abbot Kinney up the coast. Parson's Naples Land Company called its plans the "Dreamland of Southern California", and projected that "through the canals and under the high arching bridges gay gondoliers will propel their crafts like those in the waters of the Adriatic under the blue skies of Italy." The project was completed in the 1920s, then rebuilt after the 1933 Long Beach earthquake.

Naples - Long Beach

Livingston Drive and 2nd Street form the heart of Belmont Shore, from approximately Bluff Park on the west to Alamitos Bay and Naples Island on the east. The eastern border on Alamitos Bay Beach is an inland beach that faces Naples Island across a channel. 2nd Street and the fifteen intersecting side streets make up the business district of Belmont Shore. The neighborhood features Spanish-style homes from the 1920s and 1930s, older houses remodeled and expanded into contemporary styles, numerous large contemporary houses, and sections of multifamily apartment buildings.
The business district is represented by the Belmont Shore Business Association (BSBA) and the residents are represented by the Friends of Belmont Shore and the Belmont Shore Residents Association (BSRA).
The southern coast of Belmont Shore is a south-facing Pacific Ocean beach that lies just inside the Long Beach breakwater. Due to the presence of the Federal breakwater, this beach experiences very little surf, and is not as popular for beachgoing during the summer months as are the nearby beaches of Seal Beach or Huntington Beach, for example. The area offshore of the ocean beach is, however, popular with kitesurfers, kayakers, and boaters.
Each summer, the portion of Bay Shore Avenue south of 2nd Street, at the eastern end of Belmont Shore, is closed to traffic from 9 am until 5 pm and is converted into a pedestrian and bicycle-only zone.
At the intersection of 54th Place and Ocean Boulevard, at the southeastern corner of Belmont Shore, lies the entrance to the Peninsula, a narrow, mile-long neighborhood of Long Beach surrounded by water on both sides, and the Alamitos Channel at the far end.

Belmont Shore - Long Beach

The El Dorado Park neighborhood of Long Beach, California, is on the east side of the city adjacent to the large El Dorado Regional Park.

The area was originally called Banks and Braes. Paul Shoup, an executive of the Southern Pacific Railroad, and his colleagues formed the Altos Land Company in 1906 and started the development of Los Altos. The company acquired 140 acres of land from Sarah Winchester. Shoup wanted to link Palo Alto and Los Gatos by making Los Altos a commuter town. It continued a train-a-day operation to and from San Francisco.
In 1908, Southern Pacific Railroad began running steam train service through Los Altos (April 19, 1908) with five trains per day. Two freight cars served as train depot. Also, the first commercial building, Eschenbruecher's Hardware, was built in downtown. In 1913, the craftsman-style Los Altos train station was built at 288 First Street.
By 1949, many residents were dissatisfied with the zoning policy of Santa Clara county. Also, there was a constant threat of being annexed by neighboring Palo Alto and Mountain View, so they decided to incorporate. Los Altos became the eleventh city in Santa Clara county on December 1, 1952.
Train service stopped its operation in January 1964, and the train track became Foothill Expressway. Los Altos may have a legitimate claim to having the first scientifically designed sound baffle in the year 1970. Santa Clara County undertook a seminal study to calculate the effects of alternate soundwall designs along Foothill Expressway. The resulting wall brought about the predicted reduction of seven to ten decibels in noise pollution levels experienced by adjacent homes.
In 1976, Apple co-founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built the first 50 Apple I computers in Jobs's garage in Los Altos.
In 2004, landlord Judy Fusco rented her Los Altos home, later known as 'Casa Facebook', to&nbsp;Mark Zuckerberg&nbsp;where he and a few other associates scaled&nbsp;Facebook&nbsp;from 200,000 members to 2.5 million.
